Safety and Fear of CrimeText version
Alongside of the reduction of crime, promoting safety is in part a goal in itself in crime prevention.

Indeed, the fear of crime can be regarded as a social problem comparable to crime itself. Even if the problem would be due to erroneus opinions about how wide-spread crime is or to erroneous opinions about one's personal risk of being victimized, and even if the fear of crime would be due to a large extent to factors other than crime itself, the problem is a real one that seriously lowers the quality of life for many groups of people.
