The City of Helsinki and the Ministry of Justice, in co-operation with the European Forum for Urban Security (EFUS), are organising a Europe-wide Seminar entitled "Helsinki2010, International Seminar on Urban Safety, Sense of Safety – a Success Factor for a Vibrant City" on October 20-22, 2010. The Seminar is tailored to representatives of cities, security and police authorities, researchers and actors of the third sector.
The sense of safety is one of the most important factors affecting a city's success and attractiveness. The Seminar will discuss issues like how to create and maintain safety and the feeling of safety in European cities that we wish to keep open and vibrant. During the Seminar we shall hear speeches on cross-border criminality, the role of municipalities in recognizing organized crime, the forms of manifestation of human trafficking, ambulatory hooliganism linked with mega events and juvenile delinquency among others.
Keynote speakers include Minister of Justice Tuija Brax (Finland), Minister of Migration and European Affairs Astrid Thors (Finland), MP, Finnish Special Envoy for Horn of Africa and Sudan Pekka Haavisto (Finland), Dr. Dinesh Sethi from World Health Organisation (WHO), Prof. Sebastian Roché from the University of Grenoble (France), Chief Executive John de Quidt from the Football Licensing Authority (UK) and Dr. Rosanna Paradiso, President of Tampep Onlus (Italy). The Seminar will be opened by Mayor Jussi Pajunen.
Registration fee (including seminar programme, fact finding tours, evening receptions, two lunches) for delegates is 100 € until 20 September 2010 and 140 € after 20 September 2010. Deadline for registrations is 11 October 2010.
